Looking for a highland dance teacher in Colorado?
All of the teachers listed below have taken exams to be certified through a professional dance teacher’s organization. The three professional organizations that provide highland certification are the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD), Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance (SDTA) and the United Kingdom Alliance (UKA). Each organization offers different levels of certification starting from Associate to Member to Fellow. Teachers can also be certified in both the Highland and National branches. In addition, some of the teachers below have also taken an exam to be a certified highland dance judge with the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dance (SOBHD). Teachers also have the option to be members of the national highland dance teacher’s organization here in the US, the Federation of United States Teachers and Adjudicators (FUSTA).
Cristy Jones is the instructor for Cristy’s School of Scottish Highland Dance in Broomfield, CO. In addition, she is co-director with Jackie Cuthill for the highland dance corps of the Colorado Youth Pipe Band (www.cypb.net) and an instructor for dancers with the Denver & District Pipe Band (www.cypb.net), both in Denver, CO. Cristy has her Fellow Highland and Member National certification with the British Association of Teachers of Dancing and has been teaching for over 20 years. Cristy is a member of FUSTA and current Regional Delegate for the Southwest Region. Cristy is also currently the President for RMHD. Cristy has over 25 students in her school and through the years has had many dancers win championships in Colorado and the Southwest region. Although competition is one part of dance, Cristy’s main purpose in teaching is for the love of dance. She has trained over half a dozen dancers to become teachers themselves. EJ has been teaching Scottish Highland Dance in the Golden/Wheat Ridge/Arvada area for over 20 years, and is currently accepting new students, ages 4 and up. She is a member of ScotDance USA and holds her Fellow level membership in Highland and Nationals dance with the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD). EJ was a successful competitive dancer herself, having won the Atlantic International Open Championship and other major championships during her career. Heather Cronkhite is the instructor of Heather’s School of Highland Dance in Parker, CO; teaching students ages 4 and up. Heather received her Member Highland certification from the British Association of Teachers of Dancing in 1995 and is a member of ScotDance USA. In the past, Heather has served many positions on the Rocky Mountain Highland Dancer board, and is the current Chieftain of the St. Andrew Society of Colorado. She also currently serves on the ScotDance USA SW board as the regional Registrar. Through the years Heather has had multiple students qualify for the US Nationals and the BATD Sadie Simpson Scholarships, which acknowledges excellence in dance theory. Jackie is co-director with Cristy Jones of the highland dance corps of the Colorado Youth Pipe Band (www.cypb.net), teaching students ages 4 -18. Jackie has her Member Highland certification from the British Association of Teachers of Dancing. In addition, Jackie has her Master’s Degree in Education. Classes are Monday evenings at 6:00 and Wednesday afternoons at 5:30. Dancers perform with the Colorado Youth Pipe Band and have the option to pipe or play drums at no additional cost. Jennifer is an instructor in Loveland, CO and is currently accepting new students. She has her Member Highland certification with the Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance and has been teaching over 10 years. Jennifer is also a certified Scottish Official Board highland dance judge and has been judging since 2011. Jennifer is a member of FUSTA and current President for the Southwest Region. Mandy is the instructor of the McCulloch Scottish Dance Academy in Golden, CO, teaching children ages 4 and up. Mandy has been dancing since 1985 and has taught for over 20 years. She has her Fellow Highland and National certification with the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD) and Member Highland and National certification with the Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance. Mandy is also a Scottish Official Board highland dance judge, judging competitions throughout the US for the past 15 years. Mandy is a member of FUSTA and current Judge’s Chair for the Southwest Region and Dance Coordinator for the Rocky Mountain Highland Dancers. Through the years Mandy has had multiple students qualify for the US Nationals and the BATD Sadie Simpson Scholarships, which acknowledges excellence in dance theory. Pam has been teaching since 1981 and started at only 16 years old teaching most of our current teachers in the Colorado area. Pam is a member of FUSTA. Pam has her Member of Highland certification from the British Association of Teachers of Dancing.
